Attackers apologise to their victim

A GANG slashed a man on the neck with a knife before apologising and saying they had attacked the wrong person.

The 34-year-old victim was walking with his wife in the early hours of the morning when they were approached by three men.

One of the trio then knifed the victim before the three fled the scene.

Police say the incident took place in the Baden Street area of Hartlepool at around 1am.

The victim went to One Life Hartlepool, in Park Road, before being taken to the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton.

Fortunately his injuries were not serious.

Police are now hunting for the attackers and are asking anyone with any information to come forward.

A force spokeswoman said: “We received reports of a disturbance in the Baden Street area of Hartlepool at around 1am on Saturday.

“Three men had approached the 34-year-old victim and his wife before the man was attacked.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
