Attempted burglary at baker’s

POLICE are appealing for information after an attempted break-in at a village baker’s.

Peterlee CID is investigating reports of an attempted burglary at Peter’s Cathedral Bakers, in Wingate.

Police say two males were allegedly seen trying to get into the back of the premises, based North Road, around 11.30pm on Wednesday.

They did not get inside, but police are keen to hear from anyone with information about the incident.

Detective Constable Martin Wilson said: “The report we had was of loud bangs coming from the rear door of the baker’s.”

One man in his mid-20s was arrested in connection with the incident, but has been bailed pending further inquiries.
