A FORMER violin teacher is bringing music to the ears of toddlers.

Robert Maguire, 36, took the plunge into business when he launched Musical Safari in June last year.

Music has a massively important role in education, particularly in early years.

Robert already has 120 tots aged from three weeks to three years old on his books, attending classes at venues including Jarrow.

The idea is to invite children to try out anything from drums to guitars to violins, as well as listening to live music.

His scheme is now so successful, he has been nominated for a Best of South Tyneside award, in the entrepreneur of the year category.

His nomination read: “Due to a passion for music, Rob has started a business which introduces children to music, and let’s them experience and join in with live music right from being a baby.

“It is a business which has been built up from nothing – no national company name behind him, and in a location which is still fairly new to him.

“Having only started in June 2014, it already seems to have taken the North East by storm.”

Robert, from Hebburn and originally Cambridge, is married to Clare Maguire, 32, and has two children Ewan, aged four, and one-year-old Eilidh.

He said: “Music has a massively important role in education, particularly in early years.”

But he admitted it was “surreal” to be nominated for an award and added: “I am over the moon. It is really nice.”

Robert joins an already impressive list of entries for our competition. We want many more between now and the deadline of Friday, April 10.
