COUNCILLORS have given their backing to a strategy which aims to tackle crime, disorder and substance misuse.
Hartlepool Borough Council's cabinet committee met to discuss the Safer Hartlepool Partnership draft strategy at a recent meeting.
The partnership is made up of the council, police, primary care trust, probation and fire service and the aim is for them to work together to keep crime down across the town.
Partnership members are required by law to produce a partnership plan, which is a three-year strategy outlining how they will tackle crime and disorder.
The plan, which must be completed by April 1, must include a strategy for tackling crime and disorder, include annual priorities and information about the way the partnership will engage with the community.
Partnership members met in December last year to carry out a strategic assessment of their priorities for the next 12 months.
Reducing acquisitive crime in Hartlepool, specifically domestic burglary and theft.
Reducing violent crime, including domestic violence and abuse.
Tackling anti-social behaviour, including links to private rented properties and alcohol related youth anti-social behaviour.
criminal damage, specifically damage to houses.
There are also four clear objectives for the 2011-2014 period, including reducing crime and repeat victimisation, reduce the harm caused by drug and alcohol misuse, create confident and safe communities and reduce offending and re-offending.
Cabinet members agreed to refer the draft strategy to the council's regeneration and planning services scrutiny forum to consider.
The council is one of six responsible authorities with a duty to draw up and implement a partnership plan.
Other partners include Cleveland Police Authority, Cleveland Fire Authority and the Probation Trust and NHS Hartlepool.
Organisations such as Housing Hartlepool, the youth offending service and anti-social behaviour unit are also involved in the partnership.
