A SHOPPING centre store relocation is expected to create more than 12 new jobs when it opens at the weekend.

Home Bargains is investing around £500,000 in a new store at Hartlepool’s Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, which will open its doors on Saturday.

Hartlepool Borough Council vice chairman, Coun Kevin Cranney, and his consort for the day, Coun Sheila Griffin, will cut a ribbon to officially open the store to shoppers at 8.30am.

Bosses say the relocation of the current Middleton Grange Shopping Centre store to larger and more accessible premises in the centre has created more than a dozen jobs.

It will see the store move from the upper level near the escalator to an 11,000 sq ft unit on the same level next to Heron Foods.

Middleton Grange Shopping Centre has undergone an extensive renovation programme to accommodate the move. All current employees will be joining the team at the new location.

Joe Morris, operations director at Home Bargains, said: “Home Bargains is excited to be opening a new store in the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre. We’re thrilled to be in a position to offer local people even more top branded goods at exceptionally low prices.”

With plans to open another 50 stores in the next 12 months, the discount retailer is bucking current trends in the retail industry.

Mr Morris said: “The new premises will provide customers with an enhanced shopping experience. We’re looking forward to welcoming people in Hartlepool to their improved Home Bargains store.”

Shopping centre manager Mark Rycraft said: “We are overjoyed. I inspected the store yesterday and it is going to offer a wider range of products to our customers and it is an ideal place on the top level.

“Directly underneath we have the Sports Direct opening up which is also relocating to the ground floor next to Holland & Barrett.”
