Laughs galore and top ales - that’s the line-up at a Hartlepool rugby club’s fifth beer festival.
The annual event at West Hartlepool Rugby Club will be back again next month and club officials are hoping it proves to be a huge fundraiser once again.
But there are some new additions to the festival this year – and they include a face which may be familiar to television viewers.
Coronation Street’s Gareth Berliner will be the headline act as the annual event introduces a comedy night for the first time.
The West BeerFest is now in its fifth year but this will be the first time it has been held in the new clubhouse, which is in Catcote Road. The comedy night will take place in the club itself on Friday, July 3, with the popular beer and music festival outside in the marquees on Saturday, July 4.
Organiser Dave Picken said: “Having the new clubhouse open allows us to run the BeerFest for two days.
“Once again, we will have 30 ales to sample as well as cider, lager and wine bars. Admission is £10 and anyone who comes along to the comedy night will be able to bring their commemorative glass back with them on Saturday so they won’t have to pay again.”
Birmingham-based Gareth Berliner, who plays Callum Logan’s friend Macca in Coronation Street, will be joined by follow comedians Adam Rushton, Nina Gilligan and Andy Watson on the Friday night.
On the Saturday afternoon the club will be providing free children’s entertainment plus music from Hartlepool’s own Red Dreams and Marty Ruffles Pearson. Music on the evening is from County Durham band Audio Cover.
Dave added: “This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and all proceeds go to pay for the new clubhouse which opened for the first time last month. We had 550 people last year.”
Those wanting to join in with the fun of the festival can pay at the door. The event runs from 7pm to midnight on the Friday, with the comedy club scheduled to run from 8pm to 10pm.
Activities on the Saturday will last from 2pm until midnight.
