TODDLERS got the fundraising bug when they gave a big boost to a charity.
Around £570 was raised by the children of the Oxford Road Baptist Church toddler group, in Hartlepool, when they held a Big Bug Hunt last month.
And thanks to their leader Andy Millward’s links with Barclays Bank, where he works as a cashier, the £571 total was match-funded and doubled to make a final total of well over £1,000 to be given to Meningitis UK.
The youngsters, who wore their own bug headbands, were sponsored in the challenge that saw them collect as many balls as possible.
Hundreds of balls were released inside the church hall and each one had a picture of a bug on.
Andy said: “The children had ten minutes of mad time and they loved it.”
The toddler group meets every Tuesday and Thursday morning during term time.
They decided to hold a bug hunt after they staged a similar event a few years ago. The money raised from the latest fundraiser will go towards Meningitis UK’s Search 4 a Vaccine Campaign, which aims to raise £7m for research to find a vaccine for all forms of the disease.
