Firefighters were called to a house in a County Durham village early this morning.

The fire was in an outhouse of an unoccupied terraced house in Margaret Street, Ludworth.

Appliances from Peterlee and Wheatley Hill fire stations were at the scene for about 45 minutes.

The fire was extinguished using hosereels, while firefighters wearing breathing apparatus made sure the house was empty.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
