COUNCIL chiefs are expected to block plans to build new housing because it would be outside an established settlement boundary.
Developers want to build eight houses on the site of the former Aged Miners Hostel, on land close to the B1280 Salter’s Lane and North Moor Farm and Moorside Farm, in Shotton Colliery.
The applicant submitted plans for the development to the former District of Easington council in 2007.
But the plans were turned down as the development was slightly outside the village boundary.
The company has re-submitted amended plans to Durham County Council’s planning committee, saying the development would resolve an eyesore site.
The application will be heard on March 8.
But a report to the meeting recommends that officers reject the plans.
The report says the proposal is contrary to national planning guidance.
It adds: “The proposal represents the development of a site outside the established settlement boundaries as identified in the District of Easington Local Plan.”
