A NEW business venture combined with community workshops looks set to be a blooming great idea.

Beth Cain, 31, of Peterlee, enjoyed the grand opening of her new business, Verve Flowers, which has set up home at the Plants ‘R’ Ross garden centre and nursery in Easington Village, on Friday.

Verve intends to hold flower workshops and short courses for the community after the success of the business’s Christmas wreath workshops there at the end of last year.

Beth, who has a partner called Gary Ward and is also mum to Lucas, eight, and six-year-old Isabelle and step-mum to Ellie Ward, 13, started off as an apprentice florist when she was 16.

She left the job to have her children but when she returned she wanted something to fit in with her family life and started teaching floristy in the community.

She said: “It was always my dream to have a shop and do community work and when I realised there was a gap at Plants ‘R’ Ross for a florist,I thought it would be ideal to team my teaching experience with floristry workshops and short courses, alongside my business.”

Beth, who is helped by Kaye Green, is based in one of the cabins at Plants ‘R’ Ross.

Natalie Buck from Plants ‘R’ Ross said: “We are pleased we are able to use our space to help upcoming businesses, we have five cabins available for other small businesses who can use the space to operate and sell from.

“The open day was a great success with plenty of people calling in to show their support. “

Organisation of flower workshops and short courses is underway.
