POLICE have identified a woman who was pulled from the water at Hartlepool Marina as a pensioner from the town.
The body of the 79-year-old woman was found floating near the Maritime Experience’s Wingfield Castle vessel on Monday, August 20.
Detectives from Hartlepool CID investigated the case and initially struggled to formerly identify the OAP as her relatives are believed to live abroad.
Her name has not yet been made public but an inquest is due to be opened by Hartlepool coroner Malcolm Donnelly in the next few days and her details should then be revealed.
A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: “The woman who was found in the water at Hartlepool Marina has been identified and we can say that she is a 79-year-old woman from the Hartlepool area.
“She has been identified by a family member.”
The grim find was made by a security officer at 4am and the emergency services were called.
Police, fire and ambulance crews went to the scene and removed the body from the sea.
A post mortem examination was being carried out to find out exactly how she died.
