A body of a manhas been recovered from the water close to Hartlepool in the early hours of this morning.
The emergency services were called just after 6am following the discovery near the south pier, off Maritime Avenue.
Police and a crew from the North East Ambulance Service attended the scene.
A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: "The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time."
Two officers from HM Coastguard were also sent to the spot to assist from the shoreline at around 6.45am, but their help was not needed.
