A BOWLS club which came of age last year desperately needs new members.
The indoor bowls section of the Peterlee-based Passfield and District Community Association is appealing for more people to join.
The club, whose chairman is Robert Scarth, was set up in June 1990 and has just under 20 members.
But an ideal number for membership is more than 24 and organisers fear for the club’s future if participation doesn’t grow.
Dawn Miller, chairwoman of the association, said: “We have a lovely premises here to play bowls in, it’s just a pity there aren’t a few more members.
“Bowling is really good exercise and is good for boosting people’s social life.
“It’s good that this age group is getting out and meeting each other twice a week.”
The bowls club meets on Mondays and Fridays, between 1pm-4pm and holds friendly matches.
The association also provides other activities, including a residents association, dance sessions for children and adults and a quilting group.
New members are also invited to the association’s monthly meetings.
The next meeting will take place tonight at 7pm at the pavilion.
