A RISING boxing star has been remanded in custody over an alleged attack on a woman.

Declan Fusco, 22, has been charged with stalking and two counts of common assault.

South Durham ABC fighter Fusco, who dreams of competing in the Commonwealth Games, is charged with stalking between February 1 and May 12, and is accused of committing the assaults on the same woman on March 23 and May 5.

Fusco, of Rydal Crescent, Peterlee, has been remanded to appear at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on Monday for a videolink hearing over the offences.

Former East Durham College student Fusco has previously outlined a desire to fight for the Great Britain squad and was hoping one more win could provide him with that opportunity.

But he was defeated in his senior ABA final at Rainton Meadows last month.

Fusco is a rising star in boxing circles and high hopes have been pinned on his achievements by coaches.
