ORGANISERS of an annual fundraising event are hoping for their best-ever year when people take the plunge for charity.
Hartlepool Round Table has opened applications for the Boxing Day Dip at Seaton Carew, which is now in its 43rd year.
The Round Table have arranged the popular event for the last two years having taken over the organisation from Hartlepool Lions.
There were around 330 participants last year, who raised over £25,000, but the team behind the event are expecting this year’s to be bigger and better than before.
Hartlepool Round Table chairman Martin Scarborough said: “We are expecting in excess of 500 people this year if pre-registration interest is anything to go by.
“It was a fantastic event last year and hopefully this year is going to be even better, with all monies raised going towards individuals’ chosen charities.”
Around 5,000 people are expected to turn up to watch the event, with the recently-refurbished slipway at Seaton Carew expected to be used as a vantage point.
The Parade will set off at 11.30am from the Staincliffe Hotel where all participants need to sign in on the day.
Hartlepool Round Table vice chairman James Black added: “It’s important that all participants register for the event with us online or on the day so they are part of a well-organised event which will be supported by Hartlepool RNLI, HM Coastguard and Teesside Voluntary Emergency Services.”
To sign up for the Boxing Day Dip simply register and pay the £5 entry fee at www.boxingdaydip.org or by registering on the day.
Participants will receive a commemorative wristband to prove they took part.
