A BOXING legend is heading to Hartlepool later this year to tell fans about memories of his glittering career.

Frank Bruno is one of the most popular figures British boxing has ever produced, winning 40 out of his 45 professional fights.

The highlight of his career came in 1995 when he defeated Oliver McCall to be crowned WBC heavyweight champion, and even though he lost the belt six months later to Mike Tyson he has retained legendary status in the sporting world.

Bruno has been lined up to appear at the Corporation Club, in Whitby Street, on Thursday, September 25, by town based form NSG Boxing Promotions.

Nathan Greathead, who runs the firm, is delighted to have secured the services of such a big name for his first-ever Sportsman’s Dinner.

Nathan, 20, who lives in the Brierton area of Hartlepool, said: “It is great to be able to get such a big name to come to Hartlepool.

“We have already sold plenty of tickets, and even though it’s a while since Frank Bruno retired he remains such a popular figure and has some great stories to tell.”

Bruno has become a popular figure on the after-dinner circuit after ahanging up his gloves.

The evening will include a hot and cold buffet, as well as entertainment from a comedian before Bruno takes the mic to answer questions from guests.

Nathan added: “I’ve put quite a few boxing shows on over the last year or so which have all gone down really well, but this is the first time I have organised an event of this nature.

“I’m hoping it will be a sell-out, and if it is a success then it is something I will look to do again in the future.

“I’ve had a lot of help from my family and friends, and I’m also grateful to the sponsors who have backed my events, and I’m really pleased with the way the business is going.”

Tickets for An Evening With Frank Bruno, which will also feature an auction of boxing memorabilia, are priced at £35.

There are also VIP packages available at £600 and £500 for tables of 10, as well as sponsorship packages.

Tickets are on sale from the Corporation Club in Whitby Street, or through NSG Boxing Promotions’ page on Facebook.
