A THREE-YEAR-OLD boy was thrown through the air after being struck by a car.
The youngster was rushed to hospital after being hit by a vehicle on the A1086 Coast Road at Blackhall.
An ambulance was called to the gates of Castle Eden Dene, at the north end of the village, at 12.50pm yesterday.
Paramedics treated the youngster at the scene before he was rushed to hospital.
A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “A three-year-old child was hit by a car.
“He was thrown onto the bonnet and along the road.
“He was fully conscious and awake.”
“He suffered multiple grazes and cuts, but we couldn’t do a full assessment at the scene due to the child’s age.
The youngster was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital accompanied by his mother and Durham Police say his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
A section of the road, between Horden and Blackhall, was closed for a short time while police investigated the incident.
Police are investigating the incident.
