A YOUNG boy was airlifted to hospital after he fell from a wall onto some railings.

The incident happened at the bandstand at Hartlepool Marina yesterday just after 1.30pm.

The Great North Air Ambulance was called amid initial fears that the eight-year-old boy had impaled himself on the railings.

But when paramedics arrived at the scene they found the victim suffering with a flesh wound.

He was taken by helicopter to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, to be treated for chest injuries which were described as non life-threatening.
