Boy airlifted to hospital after lorry accident

A BOY has been airlifted to hospital after being involved in an accident with a lorry near Hartlepool.

The casualty, who is believed to be a teenager, was flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough with head and abdominal injuries.

A spokesman for the Great North Air Ambulance said he was in a serious but stable condition.

The incident happened at around 3.40pm on Monday on the A689 heading out of Hartlepool between Greatham and Newton Bewley.

Police closed the road for a short time so the air ambulance could land.
