A SCHOOLBOY has been hit with a £75 litter fine for playing with a plastic cup in the street.
Thomas Driver-Harvey was throwing the cup about with his friends outside the school gates at Manor College of Technology, in Owton Manor Lane, when he was nabbed by a Hartlepool Borough Council warden.
His friends ran off leaving the 13-year-old with the plastic cup and to face the wrath of the warden alone.
Thomas was given the option of either paying a £75 fine or attending a 90-minute educational class on litter.
His family said Thomas, who told them he was the last to be hit with the object, was left in tears and have slammed the council’s “heavy-handed” approach.
