POLICE are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a 10-year-old boy was hurt in a hit-and-run incident.

The incident happened at around 4.30pm on the junction of West Avenue and Eleventh Street, in Blackhall Colliery, on Friday.

Several children were playing on their scooters and riding along the back lane of West Avenue when the boy collided with the side of a car.

Police say the driver of the vehicle failed to stop and turned left onto West Street.

Officers believe the car was a silver Renault.

The boy suffered minor injuries to his left ankle and was taken to the North Tees University Hospital in Stockton for treatment.

PC Erica Bates from Durham Police’s Road Policing Unit said: “We are asking people who may have any information or who were in the area during the time of the incident to contact police.”

Anyone with any information should contact Durham Constabulary on 0345 6060365 or 101.
