A CHARITY fun day inspired by a brave youngster who was the youngest person in the North East for 20 years to be diagnosed with diabetes is to be held next weekend.
The Lucy Owen’s Family Fun Day is being held at Hartlepool Power Station Sports and Social Club, off Tees Road, on Sunday, August 25 between 1pm and 5pm.
Beaming Lucy is now a picture of health but at one stage her parents Jonathan and Vikki Owens kept a bedside vigil after being warned she may not make it through after falling ill aged eight months.
Lucy, who has since turned one, has been fitted with an insulin pump which she will wear for the rest of her life unless she later opts for injections to treat her Type 1 diabetes.
The fun day will include auctions, various stalls, a tombola, children’s rides, raffles, bouncy castle and a barbecue plus teacup rides with all proceeds going to Diabetes UK.
Full-time mum Vikki, 26, said: “We are all really looking forward to the family fun day and would encourage people to come along and support the good cause.”
Lucy lives at home in Ripon Close with her parents and older sisters Grace, six and four-year-old Violet.
Dad Jonathan, 28, is an electrician at Hartlepool Power Station.
