A MAN has died after his car left the road and collided with a tree in the early hours of this morning.
The 21-year-old driver, who is from the Trimdon area, was trapped in the car and died from his injuries.
Investigating officers from Durham Police said the blue MG ZR105 failed to negotiate a corner on Gypsy Lane, near Ferryhill, and collided with a tree, before coming to rest on its roof back on the road.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident by a passing motorist at about 2.30am today.
A 21-year-old man, also from the Trimdon area, who is believed to have been a passenger, managed to free himself from the car.
He is being treated for a possible back injury at Darlington Memorial Hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
A spokesman for Durham Police said: “We want to speak to anyone who saw the incident or the vehicle being driven prior to this accident.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at Durham Constabulary on 101.
