MAJOR regeneration plans that could eventually see Hartlepool United secure ownership of their Victoria Park ground have moved a step closer.
The Mill House masterplan aims to transform the area of Hartlepool with a residential, business and leisure development.
Hartlepool Borough Council’s cabinet committee met this morning to approve the development of the masterplan and approve Gus Robinson Developments as the preferred bidder.
The future of Victoria Park, which the club currently lease from Hartlepool Borough Council for around £18,000 a year, is a major part of the scheme.
The ground is valued at around £625,000 but could exchange hands without payment.
Cabinet members did not make any recommendations about the sale or transfer of the ground itself as that decision lies with full council.
Mayor Drummond said: “The plan for the whole site has the potential to be one of the most exciting in the town for a while.”
It is not yet known when the full council will meet to discuss the sale or transfer of the ground.
