A MAIN road looks set to remain closed into next week after Thursday’s torrential storms caused chaos across the region.
Yoden Way, in Peterlee, is currently closed and will remain shut until at least Monday, when repairs are due to start.
A major post-storm clean-up operation is under way across County Durham, with authority chiefs saying the majority of areas suffering the most damage was in the north of the county, where scores of homes were flooded.
Highways teams are also carrying out close inspections of the entire road network with street cleaners and clean and green teams removing debris and silt and dealing with any remaining localised floodwater.
While this extensive operation is completed residents are asked to report any hazards and issues they spot to the Highways Action Line on (0191) 3706000.
