AN ASPIRING young designer is hoping her business dreams come true as she prepares to showcase her Swan Lake-inspired gown.
Cheryl Holstrom, 21, who is set to graduate from Cleveland College of Art and Design, in Church Square, Hartlepool, has already received her first commission from the relative of a fellow student.
The Swan Lake-inspired bridal gown is a replica of the extravagant dress that Cheryl created for her degree and it will go on display in town later this month.
The gown, which took more than six months to create, includes more than 4,000 individually painted petals, £400 of ostrich feathers, delicately hand- painted lace and thousands of Swarovski crystals.
Cheryl, who lives in Middlesbrough, said: “I was so excited to get my first commission. It really helped me to make my mind up to work for myself rather than sell my ideas to someone else.
“I want to make unique bespoke couture standard garments, working with clients to their specific requirements and budgets, and see my dresses in bridal magazines and on catwalks across the world.”
The dress, modelled by Cheryl’s cousin, Hannah Barry, will go on display at the college’s Standout Higher Education Graduate show.
The free event, takes place between June 10 and 17 at Church Square, Hartlepool.
The showcase will feature displays from a number of talented students, with work ranging from paintings, prints, jewellery and costume designs. Many of the items are for sale or commission.
