AN event to help bring the community together will take place in a village next week.
Organisers are urging people to pull on their gloves and join a Big Tidy Up in Greatham village on Monday.
And after a day of hard work, families and villagers of all ages can let their hair down in free fun and games at Greatham Community Centre.
The event has ben organised by parish councillors and neighbourhood development officials at Hartlepool Borough Council.
Greatham parish councillor Mike McKie said: “I had spoken to Hartlepool Borough Council about trying to clean up some parts of the village and Sue McBride said there may be some funds available and it went from there.
“We wanted to organise something where it was not just a litter pick but about making an enjoyable day for everybody.
“I think once people see the community cleaning up certain areas it will be less likely they will drop litter in the future.”
The tidy up event takes place on Monday, between 12pm-3pm.
Litter pickers, gloves and bags will be provided.
They will target areas of the village highlighted by Dorothy Clark, of the Greatham In Bloom Committee.
Then on Tuesday there will be fun and games for all ages at Greatham Community Centre, Front Street, also between 12pm-3pm.
Friends and family will get to compete against each other in a Spots versus Stripes Challenge.
Other games will include giant jenga, sack race and Wii video games.
Coun McKie added: “The tidy up will be good for the community and I have no doubt that it will be a good day for the people that attend the fun day.”
Posters advertising the event have gone up in shops and homes in Greatham to help spread the word.
