Former pupils of Brinkburn Comprehensive School are looking for old classmates in time for a 40-year reunion.

A group of students who left Brinkburn’s Sixth Form in 1976 are hoping to stage a 40th anniversary reunion next year, if they can track down sufficient numbers of old friends.

A mini-get together was held recently when the reunion was suggested and now efforts are being made to publicise their search.

The students started at either Hartlepool Grammar School, Hartlepool High School or Elwick Road Secondary Modern in 1969, which were subsequently amalgamated into Brinkburn Comprehensive in 1974.

One of the event organisers, Paul Wilderspin, said there was already a group of about a dozen who are regularly in touch and meet up occasionally.

“But as it’s the 40th anniversary of us leaving next year we thought we’d try to do something special and try to track down some old mates.

“It’s just a case of getting the word out for people to get in touch if they’d be interested in a reunion.

“Nothing has been set up yet, so we’re still open to suggestions on the best time of year and venue.”

Classmates who recently met up included Colin Cameron, Paul Wilderspin, Geoff Walker, Kevin Brookbanks, Graham Cook, Steve Peacock, Gary Bishop, Graham Frankland and Chris Lee.

“But we are in contact with a dozen or so more, so if anyone recognises those names, please get in touch,” Paul added.
