The fun lasts from 10.30am to 3pm and organiser Michelle Stonehouse said: “Once again, we have a fun packed educational day for bulldog owners and anyone who loves the breed.”

Highlights will include 14 show classes, each with rosettes to be awarded.

There will also be a tombola, trade stalls, refreshments, craft stalls, a raffle and a corner dedicated to children.

Michelle added: “We have our education part of the day with Vicky Collins-Nattrass were you can get help and advice about bulldogs.

“We have three breed rescue stands this year which are Bulldog Rescue, the French Bulldog Welfare Trust and the Edward Foundation. We have a fantastic support from trade stands and an artist who has drawn and painted a Christmas card for Bulldog Day UK.

“Our free children’s corner is themed on pirates and princess with fun activities.”

The event has become an annual attraction in Hartlepool with people from all over the country attending.

Last year, more than 100 bulldogs turned out at the Rossmere Centre in the town’s Rossmere Way for a fun day of competition which included the contest to find the dog with the waggiest tail.

There were also sections for the most handsome dog, cutest pup and prettiest bitch.

The canines were joined by more than 200 people and the event is one of only two of its kind held in the UK.

One is held in Newark for the south of the UK and the other takes place in Hartlepool each year. It is so popular that visitors come from Ireland for the Hartlepool event.

Others from Norfolk, Scotland and southern England attended last year.

This year’s Bulldog Day costs £2 for adults, £1 for children and £5 for a family ticket.
