Bungee jump to help save youth club

A POPULAR youth club is organising a mass bungee jump to help stop the group falling into financial problems.

Belle Vue Youth Club, in Hartlepool, is looking for 75 volunteers to do a sponsored 160ft drop from a crane to raise cash.

The club, which is based in the Belle Vue Community, Sports and Youth Centre, in Kendal Road, currently provides for around 250 young people, aged five to 19-years-old, a week.

But organisers say the financial outlook for the year is bleak so generous - and brave - fundraisers are needed to help the club carry on.

Trevor Robinson, manager of the youth club for the last eight years, said: "With all the Government cuts the youth club will be struggling over the next year.

"It is a registered charity so we thought we would hold a community day with a bungee jump to raise funds to get us through this tough time.

"We need a big number of people to help pay for the insurance and that side of things, so it is a tall task but one I hope people will take up."

Each jumper will need to raise 100, with costs for each jump at around 65 and 35 being donated to the youth club.

Any extra money can be donated to the jumpers' charity or group of choice.

Businesses are also being sought to sponsor the day-long event in the centre's car park on Saturday, March 5, and to donate raffle prizes.
