MEMBERS of a bowling club have celebrated their 80th anniversary with a trip out.

Burn Valley Ladies Bowling Club celebrates the milestone this year and marked the occasion with a trip up the River Tees on board the Teesside Princess.

The club, which is based at the South Durham Club, in Westbourne Road, Hartlepool, was founded by three ladies in March 1934.

Burn Valley Ladies Bowling Club, which plays in the North East Ladies League, has gone from strength to strength and now has 15 playing members and 17 social members.

Club secretary Alwyne Broome said: “To reach 80 years is a real achievement and I believe we are the oldest club in the North East league.

“We are a very close group of women and we are very friendly and welcoming to any new members. The season runs from April to the end of August but we still socialise and have meetings throughout the winter.

“Anybody is welcome to join the group and we have members ranging in age from 24 all the way up to mid-80’s, so we cater for everyone.”

The purpose is to get together and socialise and encourage members to participate in league and club competitions throughout the outdoor season which runs from April to end of August each year. New members are welcome. Call (01429) 865322.
