A DAD who was badly burned in a house fire has been brought out of a coma.
Dean Day, 29, is now out of an induced coma after a blaze at his home in Dunelm Walk, Peterlee, earlier this month.
Mr Day had been rushed to Sunderland Royal Hospital after the incident and was transferred to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, where he remains.
The dad of two young sons, who were at school at the time of the incident, suffered 30 per cent burns to his face and hands as a result of the fire and explosion, which tore through into the roof of the property.
Detective Constable John Woodhall, of Peterlee CID, said: “Mr Day is out of the coma, but will be in hospital for some considerable time.”
The blaze broke out in the upstairs of the home at around 1.20pm on Friday, February 10.
Mr Day’s partner Hayley Evans, 26, was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and has since been recovering with relatives.
