DOZENS of residents were left without water for more than 12 hours and part of a busy road was closed after a water mains burst.
The eastbound side of West View Road, in Hartlepool, was closed from 9pm on Thursday until 3pm yesterday following the incident.
Thirty seven homes were left without water and Hartlepool Water engineers worked through the night to fix the pipe.
One of the two eastbound lanes was opened at around 3pm, an hour after the mains were fixed, but the other was still closed today due to the need to clean the road.
Kevin Ensell, Hartlepool Water’s operations manager, apologised but said engineers quickly attended the scene to start work on fixing the burst pipe.
He said: “The water mains burst at 9pm on Thursday night and we had engineers at the scene within the hour.
“They worked overnight and the shift swapped early on Friday morning so workers could finish the repair.
“The eastbound carriageway was closed for safety and we opened one lane as early as we could on Friday.
“The other lane will remain closed until a road sweeper attends the scene.
“Thirty seven customers were without water but we supplied them all with bottled water.”
