Bus driver targeted

YOBS shone a laser pen at a bus driver in the latest of a string of disturbances in a community.

A bus driver was left dazzled with stinging eyes after a yob shone the pen in his eyes as he drove though Shotton Colliery.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the laser attack, which happened to the 24 Arriva bus service to Peterlee, in Bruce Glazier Terrace.

The driver did not need hospital treatment.

Investigators hope passengers on the busy bus and residents can track down the teenagers responsible for the incident, which happened at 8.50pm on Tuesday, October 11.

Other reports of bad behaviour in the area have included damage to a gas pipe in Alcote Grove, nuisance at the community centre, groups congregating around the war memorial and under the canopies of people’s homes.

Police are working with East Durham Homes (EDH) to tackle the problem, and warned parents their tenancies could be under threat if trouble continues.

EDH has said it needs residents to identify those responsible for causing problems in the area to allow action to be taken.
