Business as usual for social club

SOCIAL club bosses say it is “business as usual” despite their venue being struck off a financial register for failing to keep up-to-date with accounts.

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has cancelled the registration of Thornley Workingmen’s Club with the authority after it failed to file acceptable returns for more than 12 years.

An FSA spokesman said the club can continue as it did before, though it will now come under a different tax bracket and will need to comply with working law and file their reports with Companies House rather than the FSA.

A spokesman for the workingmen’s club, based in Hartlepool Street, said: “It makes no difference – people who come to the club will know the club is running as usual.”
