MAJOR companies from the Hartlepool area are set to attend a seminar which gives businesses the chance to meet potential new suppliers.

Some of the North East’s biggest business names have signed up to the event called Meet the Buyer at Doing Business @ Tees. It is hosted by Teesside University in Middlesbrough.

Key organisations will be there including PD Ports, Cleveland Police, and the Ineos Group, who are actively looking for new sources of supply .

Also there will be The Vela Group, which consists of Housing Hartlepool and Tristar Homes, managing 17,000 properties across Hartlepool and Stockton.

The Vela Group spend millions of pounds a year on externally purchased goods, services and works. They will be looking to source new suppliers at the event as well as other professional services.

David Hill, who is responsible for procurement at the Vela Group, said: “Meet the Buyer is an effective way for us to maintain communication with the local supply chain and is an efficient route for us to source quality new suppliers.”

Karen Race, deputy director of Academic Enterprise at Teesside University, said: “Meet the Buyer at Doing Business @ Tees is a great opportunity to get up close and personal with buyers who are looking for new suppliers.

“We are delighted with the calibre of buyers so far and encourage more suppliers to sign up for this unique opportunity.”

Meet the Buyer is part of a wider project called Doing Business @ Tees which aims to accelerate business growth and skills development.

Doing Business @ Tees is held on Wednesday, September 18. Meet the Buyer is £45 plus VAT and advance booking is essential.
