A LANDSCAPING business has become a national award winner for the second year in a row.
Acorn Landscapes (North East), which is based on the Graythorp Industrial Estate in Hartlepool, took a national honour at the Marshalls Register awards in the face of hundreds of other competitors.
The firm landed the title of Best Use of Ethically-Sourced Fairstone Paving which carried a reward with a difference.
And for the company owner Paul Turnbull, it means he gets to go on a trip to India which was part of the prize.
Marshalls is a manufacturer of hard landscaping and the company held its annual award at Bagden Hall in West Yorkshire. It is a competition held for all firms which have contracts with Marshalls and that amounts to hundreds of companies around the UK.
Now Paul can look forward to a trip where he can see for himself the work that Marshalls has done in the sandstone quarries of India. That work is helping to ensure that workers are safe and no child labour is being used.
The Marshalls awards covered a range of categories from Best Permeable Driveway to Most Creative Use of a Marshalls product. They offer an opportunity for Marshalls to celebrate excellence in hard landscaping, installation and design.
More than 1,000 associated member companies are signed up to the Marshalls register from across the UK, and this year’s awards attracted more than 650 top-class project submissions from 250 contractors.
Paul said: “We are so incredibly proud to be Marshalls Register national award winners for the second year running. To be chosen from so many exceptional projects at such a high profile event makes all our hard work worthwhile.
“We were shocked to have been selected on a trip to India and really can’t wait to see how Marshalls’ Fairstone is produced.”
David Jessop, operations manager of the Marshalls Register, praised the work of the Hartlepool firm.
Mr Jessop said: “I couldn’t be more thrilled for Acorn Landscapes (North East). They are deserving winners with the quality of design and installation on this project being second to none.
“The team are an excellent example of the quality of work and professionalism you can expect from a Marshalls Register member.”
