A HARTLEPOOL dental surgery is in the running for a prestigious national honour.
Elliott McCarthy Dental Care, based in Wiltshire Way, has been shortlisted in the Dental Awards 2012.
It faces four rivals, three from Glasgow and one from Nottingham, in the Practice Design and Interior – North section.
The winners will be announced at a black-tie dinner at the Lancaster London Hotel on Friday, April 20.
They will collect a specially-designed glass trophy and shortlisted finalists also receive a certificate.
But the shortlisting is not the first accolade the practice has been nominated for. It reached the finals in two categories of The Private Dentistry Awards 2011.
Principal partner in the practice, Helen Elliott, said: “To be shortlisted for another award so soon after getting our first ever is a vindication of the investment that we have made to create a unique facility for the people of the Hartlepool.”
The latest success is timely for Elliott McCarthy.
The practice is celebrating the first birthday of a £500,000 extension and refurbishment in which the number of dental suites increased from two to six and the latest hi-tech dental equipment was added, as well as televisions above the dentist’s chair.
Pauline McCarthy, the other principal partner in the practice, said: “The prime aim of our extension was to enable the practice to offer a wider range of treatments, to more people in the most contemporary facilities in the area.
“But an additional benefit has been the confidence to enter such awards so it is great that our efforts are being recognised.”
Elliott McCarthy Dental Care has operated from the Throston Grange area of Hartlepool since 2003 and serves both private and NHS patients.
As well as Helen and Pauline, the team also includes associate dentists, a specialist endodonist, therapist and hygienist, plus a further 11 staff in functions including dental nursing, reception and management.
The Dental Awards 2012 judging panel chairman Sophie-Marie Odum said: “Year-on-year, the standard of entries gets higher and higher, and this year was no different.
“We’ve received an impressive number of entries, so being selected as a finalist is an immense achievement.”
