Council bosses in Hartlepool are looking for someone to help breathe life into one of the town’s key areas.

Hartlepool Council is seeking to recruit a heritage officer.

The Church Street Innovation & Skills Quarter is one of eight priority areas identified by the council to be transformed as part of the Hartlepool Vision.

The scheme aims to spark regeneration, create jobs and ensure future prosperity.

The authority is set to receive almost £7million in grant funding to help deliver the ambitious project which will see empty buildings brought back into use, road and pedestrian improvements and the area become a hub for creative industries.

£5.5million of the funding is earmarked through the Local Growth Funding from the Tees Valley Local Enterprise Partnership with £1.2million from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The ambitious plans to revitalise the area have already received a huge boost with the building of a new £11million Cleveland College of Art and Design which started earlier this year.

The three-year fixed appointment for the townscape heritage project officer is vital to help implement the exciting plans.

Coun Kevin Cranney, chair of the council’s Regeneration Services Committee, said: “The aim is to breathe new life into Church Street but retain and build upon the area’s heritage and historical past.

“We are striving to create a vibrant environment where creative industries can thrive, providing new job opportunities for local people.

“Currently, too many young people leave Hartlepool after studying in search of work elsewhere and this initiative aims to reverse this trend.”

A series of consultation events about the redevelopment of Church Street will be held over the summer.

The post which is advertised at www.hartlepool.gov.uk/careers requires the successful applicant to have “a good working knowledge of Heritage Lottery Fund schemes as well as experience in heritage-led regeneration”.

The post has a salary range of £25,440 to £27,924. The closing date is Friday, June 10.
