THE future of Blockbuster in Hartlepool appears more secure after a new buyer was found for the chain.
The troubled DVD and games rental chain collapsed in January amid competition from the internet and went into administration.
The Hartlepool store, on the Anchor Retail Park, escaped the axe that saw 129 other branches close, including Peterlee and Billingham.
But on Saturday administrators announced that the company had been sold to restructuring specialists Gordon Brothers Europe for an undisclosed sum, saving 2,000 jobs and 264 UK stores.
Joint administrator Lee Manning, said: “Having identified a profitable core portfolio of stores we are pleased to have achieved this sale for creditors.
“Together with the previously announced store sales more than half of the original estate has been secured for ongoing use.”
The owners say it is “business as usual” for stores.
