A SUCCESSFUL company that owns a 700-acre business park has pledged support to a community cafe.

The dedicated volunteers at the Burbank Community Cafe, in Hartlepool, were all smiles after they received a £200 donation from Wynyard Business Park.

Ruth Stoddart, Alan Russell and Joyce Kelly are the kind-hearted driving forces behind the cafe, which provides a meeting place for residents who might otherwise be left isolated and lonely.

Mrs Stoddart said: “I’m so grateful for the support of Wynyard Business Park and we will put the money towards our running costs.

“It’s not very often that you get a business of their size supporting a small community-based venture like us.

“The fact they would even spare us a thought is of huge credit to them.”

Paul Barber, managing director of Wynyard Business Park, which is home to around 60 companies at its site near Hartlepool, added: “People like Ruth, Alan and Joyce are worth their weight in gold.

“They don’t often get the recognition they deserve for the contribution they make to their local communities, so when we heard about the cafe we were only too happy to help.”

The Burbank Community Cafe has been running around nine months and opens on a Wednesday, from 9am-1pm.

Volunteers are hoping the opening hours can be extended in the future and also that the cafe can be used to provide training opportunities for local residents.
