THE stunned organiser of Hartlepool’s iconic business awards found himself at the centre of attention.
After six years of organising one of the biggest highlights the town’s business calendar, John Megson has called it a day as the awards co-ordinator.
But to his complete surprise, he was presented with his own trophy to mark his final stint as the master of ceremonies.
In front of an audience of 370 people, Hartlepool MP Iain Wright presented him with a glass plinth and said of Mr Megson, although a Yorkshireman by birth: “If you cut him in half, like a stick of rock, the name Hartlepool would run all the way through.”
Mr Megson, who has moved on to become the chairman of the HMS Trincomalee Trust, said: “This was not expected at all. I have been proud to work in Hartlepool for 18 years. It is my adopted town and I hope I have made a contribution to it.”
