AN entrepreneur has opened a second barber’s shop - with cut-throat shaves proving to be a huge attraction.

Hartlepool resident Joanne Hockborn, 38, has started a new branch of her barber’s firm Lewis’s Barbers within the sports domes at Seaton Carew.

Joanne said her aim was to continue with the success she enjoyed when she opened her first branch at Stockton Road.

Now, she’s launched a second outlet at Seaton Carew and said: “The cut-throat shaves seem really popular. I have already done quite a few since I opened four weeks ago.”

She said the chance to open in the fitness zone at the domes was “a good opportunity”. “It is all-new and when it develops it is going to be quite some clientele,” she added

As well as the barbers, the domes also has a masseuse and nail area run by other people in the sports sector.

Joanne is married to Lee, 39, who works as a contract manager, and has two children Chloe, 17, and Lewis, 12.

She has been a barber for more than 16 years and added: “It has taken off really well. I worked for other people but now that I am in business for myself I am getting clientele from Peterlee and all over and not just Hartlepool. A lot of it seems to be word of mouth. I do seem to be doing well with the cut-throat shaves especially in the wedding season when the grooms, best man and usher come in.”

Joanne and her workers make up a team of five staff and she admitted it was “long hours” while she built up the business, especially as much of the trade at the domes branch was at tea-time.

But she added: “I am happy. It is working out brilliantly at the moment.”

She said the idea of working from the domes “just fell into place” but it was proving to be really successful.
