NEWS the Government has commissioned research into varying air passenger duty on a regional basis has been welcomed by airport chiefs.
Bosses at regional airports Durham Tees Valley and Newcastle International Airport have previously highlighted fears the air passenger duty (APD) rates have had on the region.
Newcastle Airport has put forward a proposal for a higher rate of APD be charged from the biggest, most congested airports, and a lower rate from the quieter regional airports.
It was announced the Government has commissioned research into varying the tax at a meeting attended by Sedgefield MP Phil Wilson.
The research will be published this summer.
