THE North-East’s top construction projects have clinched awards – and the revamp of Billingham leisure complex is among them.
More than 80 entries fought out the seventh annual Constructing Excellence in the North-East (CENE) Awards which culminated in a ceremony at Gosforth Park Hotel in Newcastle.
The Forum redevelopment in Billingham picked up the honour for Integration and Collaborative Working.
CENE’s chief executive Catriona Lingwood said: “The spread of quality came from all across the North-East and reflected excellence throughout the region’s construction community, despite a tough year which has seen many in the sector struggle.”
The Forum is due to re-open this Friday after a refurbishment project which has gone on for nearly two years.
The project saw Stockton Borough Council work alongside other organisations including Morgan Sindall, Devereux Architects, WYG and Billinghurst George and Partners.
Judges said, in choosing a winner, they were looking for evidence of how workforce development has improved as a result of collaboration, long term relationships and common processes across organisations.
The new-look Forum now has facilities which include an additional training pool, new dance studio, ice pad, extended gym area, reception and cafe.
