A family firm which has traded in Hartlepool for more than 30 years is investing in the future.

The newly-named Furniture, Fireplace and Granite Warehouse, in Reed Street, has changed its name after decades of being known as The Reproduction Centre.

New signs adorn the company premises but it’s not the only change for the business which is also much more than a firm specialising in just reproduction furniture these days.

Factory manager Glen Crawford, 48, whose father Eric Crawford, 68, first formed the business, said: “This is a relaunch and we want to expand.”

The firm, in which Glen’s brother Jeff Crawford, 46, is the office manager, is involved in “all aspects of furniture,” said Glen. “We do everything including the kitchen sink.”

It specialises in dining rooms, living rooms, bedrooms, beds, pictures and mirrors, ornaments, gas and electrical fires, and granite work tops which are made to measure in the company’s own factory.

The firm, first set up by Eric 31 years ago, was originally Hartlepool Reproduction Centre and changes followed later.

But Glen added: “The name Reproduction Centre does not tell people what we do. We have expanded into other things and this name change has been a while coming. There has also been a lot of work on the refurbishment of the showroom.”

The firm employs 30 people. Glen added: “We have turned the corner. There are signs that things are on the up.”
