A Hartlepool company is taking on more staff and enjoying well deserved progress.

And it is all happening for Hodgson Fish as it gets set to celebrate 100 years in business.

What we do is fairly niche, supplying fish to top restaurants. We have over 50 staff and we have been asked if we can supply to restaurants in Sheffield and Manchester and the likes. I can only see an upward growth and more staff, and we are recruiting at the moment.

The firm started with a shop in Whitby Street in Hartlepool in 1916, although the family tradition in fishing dates back further to 1874 when ancestors caught herring.

Today, the business is a thriving fishmonger based at the Fish Quay in town, with shops as well.

Success can also be measured through the firm’s inclusion in a list of the fastest 50 growing businesses in the region.

“You have got to make a profit. You have to have filed your accounts on time and you have to be showing growth,” said company chairman Alan Hodgson.

Fellow family members Jill and Peter Hodgson now run the business. They are all delighted to be in the list of flourishing companies but even brighter times beckon.

Alan added: “We are looking to add another four people over the next three to four months.”

The Hodgson business supplies product such as spider crabs, hand dive scallops, and lobster.

It supplies to some of the highest quality restaurants in the North and Alan said: “What we do is fairly niche, supplying fish to top restaurants.
