Bosses at a Hartlepool hotel are celebrating after being given two rave ratings by on-line review site Tripadvisor – for the third year running.

The Douglas Hotel in Grange Road has been awarded two Certificates of Excellence by the site – one for the hotel overall and the other for its Ruskins Bistro restaurant – testifying to the high average marks they have received from people posting reviews on the website.

The hotel is rated four-and-a-half out of five on average, while the restaurnt boasts a perfect five out of five.

Boss Lee Pennick said the fact reviews on the site were posted by real customers made Tripadvisor’s endorsement particularly pleasing.

“Some people want to comment on the hotel, some people want to comment on the restaurant and some people want to comment on both,” he said.

Lee took over at the Douglas nearly four years ago and it was soon awarded its first Tripadvisor seal of approval.

“We have had the hotel since November 2011 and there was a bit to do,” he said.

“We were awarded certificates in 2013 and 2014 and we are very happy with where we are now.”

It was important to keep investing in the business in order to maintain standards, said Lee

“We have got a few places in the town now,” he added.

“We have got the New York House – that was the York Hotel – and that is going really well. We have spent a lot on that.”
