Staff at Hartlepool Power Station have been showing their support for a good cause in the town.

Hartlepool food bank was the beneficiary of a substantial donation from Doosan Babcock Hartlepool Power Station and Doosan Babcock SABIC as part of the company’s community service day.

More than 10,000 Doosan Babcock employees from around the world participated in the special ‘Day of Community Service’ initiative, which is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility programme.

Through this scheme, staff seek to give back to their local communities in a number of ways.

A spokesman for Doosan Babcock said: “Over the past year employees at the Doosan Babcock site in Hartlepool have raised £1,406 with assistance from colleagues at Doosan Babcock Sabic.

“This meant that when today’s donation of 637.5kg of food, which is the equivalent of over 1,523 meals, is added to the donation made in March of 413.7kg, Doosan Babcock employees have been able to provide just over 2,500 meals for those families in Hartlepool facing hardship in one form or another.”

Al Wales, the food bank co-ordinator, said: “The support Doosan Babcock has given to the local people of Hartlepool through the food bank has been fantastic.

“Not only do they continue to raise an incredible amount but they also contact us before they purchase their donation to find out what we are most in need of.

“This targeted giving is invaluable as it helps us continue to provide food to our clients across all the major food groups.

“Thank you to all the Doosan employees who contributed.”
