ASPIRING entrepreneur John Mathwin has achieved a long-standing dream and set up his own business.

The 55-year-old from Hartlepool has started York Road Tyres and Exhausts and taken on his first employee in Dave Callaghan.

The firm covers brakes, air conditioning, batteries and servicing as well as tyres and exhausts.

John added: “I served my time as a mechanic a long time ago and this is something I always wanted to do. Everyone wants to aspire to do something like this.”

Clientele is mainly local and John is hoping to expand the business sufficiently so that he can take on more staff. He said: “Hopefully I can extend the business and perhaps employ two or three people. I have got the capacity for it and it is just the volume I need now.”

John also praised the help of the Hartlepool Enterprise Centre, which is based in Brougham Terrace, for assisting him.
